Sligo Rovers 1-1 Dundalk FC
The opening game of the EA Sports U17 National League of Ireland season ended in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon as Dundalk and Sligo Rovers traded two late goals in a 1-1 draw at The Showgrounds.
In what was a tight game, there were no goals until the 88th minute, when the hosts took the lead. The young Lilywhites then showed real character after the restart and they were soon rewarded as Dualta Honney equalised in the 90th minute.
With some players being involved in their first competitive game in well over a year, head coach Darren McGarry was impressed with his side’s performance in the west.
“I’m very impressed with the performance,” he said. “We had chances to go ahead but I’m happy with the character the players showed after going a goal down late on.”
The U17s will be back in action next Saturday, as they host Cavan Monaghan at Oriel Park in Group A of the EA Sports U17 National League of Ireland.
