Longford Town U17 0-4 Dundalk FC U17

EA Sports National Underage League Group A

Dundalk U17s put in a very good performance in their penultimate EA Sports National Underage League Group A group game of the season as they beat Longford Town 4-0 on Saturday evening.

With the rain falling over Bishopsgate, Darren McGarry’s side started the game at a great pace and they made their quick start count, as Callum Bonner gave the visitors the lead on the five-minute mark. Bonner and Anthony Moyo combined with some excellent play down the right-hand side before Bonnor cracked a quality strike into the top corner to give the Lilywhites the lead.

Dundalk’s excellent start to the game carried on as they bagged a second minutes later. An excellent driven set-piece from Dualta Honney made its way into the box, and Thomas Galvin arrived late to direct it past the helpless Longford Town goalkeeper.

The Lilywhites continued to control proceedings and build on their excellent start over the next few minutes. Longford tried to hold the visitors off, but the game was all but over on the half-hour when the towering Craig Moore nodded home a Tadgh Walshe cross to put McGarry’s boys 3-0 up at halftime.

Longford didn’t let their heads drop, as they continued to work hard in search of an opening in the second half, without any joy. Dundalk created numerous chances themselves throughout the half and eventually capitalised. Bonner doubled his tally for the day, finishing brilliantly after some brilliant trickery and a clever cut-back from Eoin Kenny.

The Lilywhites saw the game out to take all three points after a superb performance at Bishopsgate. They will be hopeful of carrying this form into their final group game away to Derry City next Sunday, August 14th at 2pm.
