Audio: “We Did Enough to Win” – Byrne
Dundalk FC striker Jason Byrne felt that his side “did enough to win the game”, after an enthralling 1-1 draw with Sligo Rovers at Oriel Park on Friday night.
Byrne gave the Lilywhites a seventh-minute lead with a fine finish as he joined Gary Twigg and Gareth McGlynn at the top of the Premier Division scoring charts on four goals, but he “apologised” to the defence for his “error of judgement” which led to Sligo’s equaliser.
Looking ahead to Monday’s Setanta Sports Cup semi-final second leg against Cliftonville, the 33-year-old said that “it’s important to keep our heads” as they hold a 3-1 advantage going into the game.
Byrne concluded by praising Mark Quigley who on Thursday won the Airtricity/SWAI Player of the Month for March.
