Galway United 2-2 Dundalk FC

Dundalk FC earned a hard-fought point on the road as they came from behind to draw 2-2 with Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park.

The Lilywhites made a bright start and took the lead in the 12th minute when Daryl Horgan’s delivery was met by Gbemi Arubi, who headed home from close range. Dundalk looked the stronger side in the opening half and nearly doubled their advantage soon after, but Evan Watts denied Bobby Burns with an excellent save.

Galway responded strongly after the break and turned the game around with two quickfire goals. Stephen Walsh levelled for the hosts in the 51st minute before Kris Twardek headed Galway in front just after the hour mark.

Dundalk continued to push and were rewarded in the 81st minute when Bobby Burns struck low to make it 2-2 against his former club. The visitors nearly went on to win it late on, with Declan McDaid hitting the post as Ciaran Kilduff’s side finished strongly.

In the end, Dundalk had to settle for a point, but there was plenty of character on show as they fought back to take something from a demanding away fixture.
