JR Wilson Signs for Dundalk FC

Dundalk FC is delighted to announce the signing of right-back JR Wilson after his latest stint with Athlone Town.
The 26-year-old joins the Lilywhites ahead of the July transfer window and brings with him a wealth of experience from across the League of Ireland. A First Division winner with Shelbourne in both 2019 and 2021, Wilson is no stranger to promotion battles and he’s ready to embrace another with Dundalk.
Speaking at Oriel Park after putting pen to paper, Wilson said the opportunity to link up with Dundalk head coach Ciarán Kilduff again was a key factor in the move.
“I’ve been chatting to the manager the last few weeks,” he said. “He’s kept in contact over the years since we worked together at Shelbourne, and I’m honestly honored to be here now. This is a massive club, and it’s great to see it going in the right direction again.”

Having started his underage football at Kilnamanagh AFC, Wilson moved on to Bray Wanderers’ U19s in 2015 before switching to Bohemians the following year. He made the step up to senior football in 2018 and has since lined out for Bray, Bohs, Shelbourne, Sligo Rovers and Athlone Town.
His arrival adds both experience and leadership to a young Dundalk squad that has impressed him from afar.
“It’s a fairly young group but with some really good players,” Wilson said. “I’ve played against a lot of them and they’ve always stood out. Hopefully I can add a bit of experience and help push the lads on in the second half of the season.”
Wilson also praised the standard of facilities at Oriel Park and said he was excited to finally be on the home side at the venue, after years of tough battles as an opposition player.
“I’ve had a few scraps up here over the last eight years, so I’m glad to be on this side now! The facilities have surprised me to be honest, the gym, the indoor area, everything is top class. I’m buzzing to get going.”
Though he won’t be eligible to feature until the July window officially opens, Wilson already has his sights set on his potential debut.
“I think the first game I can play is away to Kerry, and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “Hopefully I can help the team pick up a few more wins between now and then.”
Welcome to Dundalk, JR!
