Horgan Hat-Trick Inspires Rampant Lilywhites in Limerick

Dundalk FC produced a devastating attacking display at the Markets Field, sweeping aside Treaty United with a thumping 7–0 victory that sees Ciarán Kilduff’s men move eight points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division.

Skipper Daryl Horgan was the star of the show, bagging a hat-trick and adding two assists, while Vinnie Leonard, Rohan Vaughan, Gbemi Arubi and an own goal from Evan O’Connor completed the rout.

The result makes it five league wins in a row for the Lilywhites, who have now scored 17 goals in their last three matches as the push for promotion gathers unstoppable momentum.

First Half: Ruthless Dundalk Take Control

It took just 10 minutes for Dundalk to strike. Aodh Dervin’s floated cross picked out Horgan at the back post. His header came back off the upright, but the captain reacted quickest to stab home from close range.

Horgan doubled his tally on 20 minutes. This time it was Conor O’Keeffe with the delivery, the winger ghosting into space before flicking the ball neatly beyond Corey Chambers.

Treaty briefly threatened through Patrick Ferry, who forced Enda Minogue into a sharp stop, while Lee Devitt drilled a free-kick over.

On the half-hour, Gbemi Arubi’s attempted cross deceived everyone, including Chambers, and drifted into the net to make it 3–0.

Three minutes later, it was four. Eoin Kenny’s low cross was bundled into his own net by the unfortunate Evan O’Connor, with Horgan lurking for what would have been his hat-trick.

Dundalk went into the break 4–0 ahead and cruising.

Second Half: Horgan Completes His Treble

With the points already secured, Dundalk showed no mercy after the restart. Declan McDaid tested Chambers from distance before the floodgates reopened.

On 64 minutes, Horgan’s corner found Leonard, who powered home a header.

Substitute Vaughan added a sixth, meeting Horgan’s clipped cross with a clever header past Chambers, before the captain fittingly completed his hat-trick.

Dean Ebbe was brought down by Chambers inside the box, and Horgan stepped up to smash home from the spot on 83 minutes, sealing a night to remember for the Lilywhites skipper.
