Dundalk MU14 fell to a narrow 2–1 defeat against a well-organised Bohemian FC side in what proved to be an entertaining and hard‑fought encounter on Sunday.
First Period
Dundalk began slowly, with Bohemians immediately asserting themselves and playing some sharp, attacking football. The visitors came close to opening the scoring early when a dangerous ball was driven across the box, only for the resulting shot to flash wide.
Bohs did take the lead shortly afterwards when the referee awarded a penalty following a tussle involving the Dundalk full‑back on the edge of the box. The spot‑kick was converted, giving the away side a deserved advantage.
Second Period
Dundalk emerged for the second period with noticeably higher energy and tempo, putting significant pressure on the Bohs midfield and defence. Their improved play led to several chances, including a notable opportunity for McShane, who fired over the bar from close range after a corner left the goal unguarded.
Bohemians were reduced to 10 men later in the period after a two‑footed challenge that left Charlie Smith injured and unable to continue. All at the club wish Charlie a speedy recovery.
The home side’s pressure finally paid off when Finn O’Hara struck once again—scoring in his fourth consecutive game—to level the match. O’Hara nearly doubled his tally soon after, breaking free only to be denied by an excellent last‑ditch tackle from the Bohs centre‑back.
Final Stages
Dundalk goalkeeper Fingleton was called into action late on, producing a fine save to stop a Bohemians counterattack.
However, deep into injury time, Bohs were awarded a corner following a clear handball that went unnoticed by the officials. From the resulting set piece, the visitors scored at the back post to snatch a dramatic late winner.
Despite the disappointing result, Dundalk can take plenty of positives from their performance—particularly their response in the second period and their strong spells of dominance against a seasoned and well‑drilled Bohemians outfit.
