Report: Dundalk FC 1-3 Bohemian FC

Dundalk were left frustrated as Bohemian FC came from behind to claim the win, despite the home side making a bright start and taking a first-half lead.

Gbemi Arubi had the first chance of the game after just four minutes, drilling a low shot straight at Kacper Chorazka. Three minutes later, the Bohs goalkeeper was tested again, reacting brilliantly to beat away Aodh Dervin’s effort from 20 yards.

Dundalk continued to press and created another opening in the 22nd minute. Dervin sent Eoin Kenny free on the right, and Kenny played in Tyreke Wilson, who tried to slide the ball into Arubi. The clearance came back to Wilson, but he shot over the bar.

The breakthrough arrived in the 34th minute. Ronan Teahan began the move before feeding Arubi, who found Dervin, and the midfielder produced a fantastic angled strike from just inside the area that gave Chorazka no chance.

Arubi almost added a spectacular second shortly before half-time, trying his luck from the halfway line with a daring effort that had Chorazka momentarily concerned.

At the interval, Dundalk withdrew Daryl Horgan for Harry Groome, while Bohs introduced Sadou Diallo, Douglas James-Taylor and Darragh Power.

Within five minutes of the restart, the game was level. After a series of ricochets and rebounds in the Dundalk area, the ball fell kindly for Ross Tierney, who scored from close range.

The game moved away from Dundalk in the 66th minute when Rob Cornwall was adjudged to have pushed Tierney as he raced through. Referee Aaron O’Dowd pointed to the spot, and Douglas James-Taylor sent Enda Minogue the wrong way from the penalty.

Despite the one-goal advantage, the match remained tight for the rest of the half. Dundalk came close to an equaliser in the 87th minute when Bobby Burns pounced on a Hickey clearance and struck a brilliant volley, only for Chorazka to do brilliantly to turn it away.

That proved to be Dundalk’s final chance, as Bohs added a late third on the break through Zane Myers.
