Dundalk FC is delighted to announce the loan signing of Wasiri Williams from Swansea City.

The 22-year-old defender, who will wear the number 22 shirt, becomes our seventh new arrival of the 2023 campaign and will go into the squad for Friday night’s League of Ireland clash with Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

“I was with my family on Saturday when my agent called me about the opportunity and it was a quick transition,” Williams told dundalkfc.com. “I wanted to come here and play, Swansea wanted me to come here and play so it was a thumbs up all around.

“I’m an aggressive centre-back who loves to tackle but I also like to play which is something I can hopefully bring to the team.”

Born in Croydon, ‘Waz’ joined Swansea City in July 2022 after spending four years in the English non-league where he played with Ashford United, Tunbridge Wells, Sheppey United, Hatcham FC, Braintree Town and Corinthian Casuals.

Williams has been a regular for Swansea City’s U21 team this season, skippering the side on multiple occasions, and he also chipped in with three goals, including a brace against Cardiff City.

“I’m delighted to get Wasiri on board,” said Dundalk FC head coach Stephen O’Donnell. “He’s a big, powerful defender who’s primarily a centre-back but he can also play at full back.

“He trained with the squad for the first time this morning and he is a good communicator, which is important and it’s something we want to see.

“He’s strong, he’s physical, he’s quick and he’s good on the ball so he has a lot of good attributes and I’m really looking forward to seeing him in action.”
