Dundalk FC WU19 2-0 Peamount United

Our WU19 team picked up their first win of the season on St Patrick’s Day as goals from Stephanie Cunningham and Mischa Rooney secured them a 2-0 victory over Peamount United at Oriel Park.

The Lilywhites opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time when Sarah Byrne picked out Cunningham with a good free-kick and her header had enough power and guidance to beat Niamh Richardson in the Peamount goal.

The visitors started to grow in confidence in the early stages of the second half but Dundalk put the game to bed when substitute Mischa Rooney claimed her first goal for the club with five minutes to play.

“All in all, I’m really happy with how we played and I’m delighted we have our first points on the board,” said WU19 head coach Jason McConville.

“We played lots of good stuff in the first half and deserved our lead at the break,” he added. “We probably let Peamount back into it in the second half so Mischa’s goal came exactly at the right time.

“I thought you could see what we have been working on and I thought there was lots of improvement in our play so it was a very positive result and hopefully we can go on now and get some momentum going.”
