Bobby Burns Signs Contract Extension

Bobby Burns has signed a new contract with Dundalk FC that will keep him at Oriel Park until the end of the 2027 season.

"I'm absolutely delighted. Since I've come to the club I've had a great time, really enjoyed it, and love working with the staff and the players, so I'm really delighted to commit for next season," Burns said.

Reflecting on his time at the club so far, Burns said the season has exceeded his expectations, both on and off the pitch.

"It's probably gone even better than I thought. I was joking with the manager when I first came in that we didn't have a pitch to train on yet, or the floodlights. But he showed so much enthusiasm about where the club could be, and to be fair, with all the improvements around the facilities, the painting, the pitch, the floodlights, it's been brilliant.

"We started the season brilliantly, some great wins for us, and while the last few weeks have been a bit disappointing, the new signings have given us a real boost. I think they're really starting to show their match fitness now, so I'm excited to see what the rest of the season brings. There's still so much to play for, but looking into next season and beyond, I feel like the foundations are being set for us to be really successful."

Burns has featured in a number of different roles for the club this season, filling in across the squad amid a run of injuries.

"The manager's probably used my versatility this year. We've had a few injuries, but I've enjoyed playing other positions. Dundalk is a town where people really appreciate that kind of hard work and commitment, and that's the way I try to play."

The 2027 deal also has one eye on the bigger picture, with Burns hopeful his commitment can help persuade others to follow suit.

"I can't wait to see where the future takes us. Hopefully signing up for next season will encourage a few others to stay, and maybe help us recruit a few players in the next year too. But the manager's had a big part to play in it all, what he's doing here, and the improvements the club is making on and off the pitch, it's a really exciting time to be a Dundalk player.

"I'm really looking forward to not just finishing this season strongly, but going into next year with a really strong squad." Dundalk Football Club would like to thank Peter at Halpin Sports Partnership for his assistance with this process.
