Dundalk FC supporters group The Shed Side Army (SSA) are organising a food drive in aid of Dundalk Simon Community over the coming days.

The SSA are asking for donations of various items such as non-perishable foods, hats, scarves, coats, adult clothing and toiletries (no razors).

Donations can be handed into The Shed at Oriel Park on Tuesday, December 14th and Wednesday, December 15th between 7pm and 9pm. All items will be handed over to Dundalk Simon Community before Christmas.

Danny O’Connell, a member of the Shed Side Army, outlined the group’s reason for organising the initiative.

“A few of the lads – and girls – in the SSA thought it would be a great idea to give something back to those who need a bit of help at such an important time of the year.

“Christmas can be a very tough time for some people and giving something small can make a massive difference to their lives,” he added.

Dundalk Simon Community will also hold its Christmas church gate collections this weekend on Saturday, December 18th and Sunday, December 19th and Danny said the SSA were hoping to contribute to the charity on a regular basis in the future.

“This is hopefully the start of an annual thing,” he said. “The response on social media has been fantastic and we hope to see a lot of people pop in to Oriel over the two nights.

“The passion of the people in this town is amazing and we believe that when everybody works together, great results can happen. Together, we are better.”

The Shed Side Army are preparing to launch a new retro scarf and a selection of stickers with all profits going towards the creation of banners and flags.
