Dundalk FC is delighted to announce the signing of American midfielder Taner Dogan.

The 22-year-old, who trained with the Lilywhites for large chunks of 2020, spent the second half of last season at SSE Airtricity League Division One side Athlone Town.

And after receiving a work permit recently, Dogan said he is now looking forward to establishing himself in the Dundalk first-team squad at Oriel Park.

“I am delighted to sign with Dundalk and help the club build upon the success it has enjoyed in recent years,” he told dundalkfc.com.

“I was able to gain valuable League of Ireland experience last year with Athlone Town and I’m excited to continue my development with the excellent coaching staff here.”

Born in St Louis, Missouri, Taner graduated from Harvard University where he captained their NCAA Division One side in 2019.

After moving to Ireland at the beginning of last year, he lined out for Dundalk in pre-season before the campaign ground to a halt in March due to the coronavirus but he returned in the summer of 2020 and signed for Athlone Town.

During his time in the midlands, he made 18 appearances and scored four goals as the first division side advanced to the semi-finals of the FAI Cup where they were beaten by Dundalk in a game that Dogan missed through suspension.
