Dundalk FC have confirmed that Norman Garbett has signed a new contract for the 2026 season, continuing his time at Oriel Park.
Garbett admits his spell with the club has been stop-start due to injury, but says the experience has only strengthened his determination. “It’s been a bit unfortunate with the spell I’ve had here,” he said. “But the little glimpses I’ve had, I’ve shown what I can do.” After returning towards the end of last season, he felt he was beginning to find rhythm again. “I was back at the end of the season and starting to get more minutes, which was a bit annoying when the season was ending, but I’m excited for this season and I’m leaving all that in the past.”
The midfielder spoke openly about the work required behind the scenes during his recovery. “People don’t see it, but I did a lot to get back. I was working really hard,” Garbett said. He believes that journey now allows him to support others in the squad. “With footballers, everyone goes through tough periods. Even with injuries, I’ve been through quite a bit, and I think I can give advice to young ones who might be suffering with injuries.”
Having experienced relegation, promotion and now a return to the Premier Division, Garbett feels he brings valuable perspective. He also said the backing shown by the manager has given him confidence heading into 2026. “It does fill me with a lot of confidence. He said I showed a lot in the small stint I had, and I take those words quite kindly,” he added.
Looking ahead, Garbett is excited by the challenge of the Premier Division and the atmosphere at Oriel Park, believing the hard work he has put in will stand to him as Dundalk prepare for the new season.
