Kingscourt Harps 1-2 Dundalk FC Ladies

NEFL Women’s Division North

A late Dayna Ferguson goal sealed victory for Dundalk Ladies in a tough match away to Kingscourt Harps on Monday night.

The Lilywhites came into the game knowing only a win would do to keep their title hopes alive, but an experienced Kingscourt side limited Eddie Conroy’s team to half chances in the early stages of the game.

Dundalk looked to be finally settling into the game when Kingscourt were rewarded a controversial penalty, which was calmly tucked away to give the hosts the lead going into the half time break.

The visitors came out and played with real intensity at the start of the second period, throwing everything at their opponents in search of an equaliser.

They were finally rewarded on the hour mark, when Katie Brophy’s lofted ball into the box was met by Sarah McHugh, who nodded home to draw the teams level.

The minutes ticked by, and it looked like the sides would have to share the spoils but, with five minutes to go, a goalmouth scramble fell to Dayna Ferguson, who made no mistake with her finish to seal all three points for the Lilywhites, who extend their winning run to four matches.

It was another superb performance from Dundalk Ladies, who look to be picking up form at just the right time as they continue their push for the title.
