Horgan Inspires Victory as Lilywhites Reclaim Momentum in Title Race

Dundalk bounced back in style on Friday night with a crucial 2–1 win over promotion rivals Cobh Ramblers at St Colman’s Park, thanks to a goal and assist from talisman Daryl Horgan.

With the First Division summit under pressure following a run of tight games, the Lilywhites delivered a composed and clinical performance to remain top, extending their unbeaten run in the process and reaffirming their title credentials.

Under the lights in Cobh, it was a high-stakes clash with both sides knowing a win could change the shape of the table. Dundalk nearly struck early through Sean Keogh, whose free-kick rattled the post, while Horgan tested Timothy Martin with a couple of sharp efforts.

After weathering some early pressure, Cobh’s first chance came via a deep cross from Cian Bargary, which Enda Minogue gathered under pressure.

The breakthrough came in the 37th minute. Horgan, lively throughout, cut inside and curled a pinpoint strike into the far corner to put Dundalk in front. The Republic of Ireland international was instrumental again moments later, this time turning provider.

His cross from the right flank found the head of Gbemi Arubi, who nodded home from close range to double Dundalk’s advantage just before the break.

The hosts responded early in the second half. Shane Griffin curled a fine free-kick past Minogue in the 54th minute to set up a nervy final half hour.

Despite the setback, Dundalk showed their composure. Horgan, Dean Ebbe, and substitute Eoin Kenny all had chances to restore the two-goal cushion, but the Cobh defense and Martin in goal, held firm.

Late Cobh pressure was well handled by the visitors, with Minogue pulling off a key save in stoppage time to deny Dale Holland and preserve the three points.

It was a gritty performance in testing conditions, and a huge result on the road as the Lilywhites look to maintain their push for promotion.
