There’s silverware on the line when our MU15 team take on Sligo Rovers in the EA SPORTS LOI Plate final at Oriel Park on Saturday at 2pm.

Thomas McShane’s side booked their place in the decider with a brilliant 5-0 win over Drogheda United last weekend; Karl Stenson-Browne hit the opener before Jack Martin and Fahd Nil Monney helped themselves to a brace each.

This will be the third time the sides have met this season. The first game of the Tier Two North section ended in a 1-1 draw at The Showgrounds while the Bit o’Red won the corresponding game 2-0 at Oriel Park in early September.

“It will be a tough game for our lads because we haven’t beaten Sligo this year but it’s great that they have a final to play in on the last day of the season,” said McShane.

“Ideally, we’d like to be involved in a final at a higher level but we missed out on the Elite section by two points and lost our way a little bit in the middle of the Tier Two North phase.

“That little spell, where we lost against Athlone and Sligo, set us back a bit but we’ve recovered well with two big wins against Drogheda, keeping a clean sheet in both games, and there’s a trophy on the line which we want to win.

“The lads have trained well, and they’re looking forward to it. For some of our players, it will be their last game at U15 level. Some of them will be looking to take the step up to U17 next year so we’d like to end it on a high.”

Everyone at the club would like to thank Hanley Energy for the wonderful support they showed our MU14 and MU14 academy teams this season.
