Dundalk MU17s made it seven wins from seven with an impressive 4-0 victory over Finn Harps at Letterkenny Community Centre on Sunday.
After the long trip to Donegal on Sunday morning, Dundalk had to contend with difficult weather conditions in the opening half. The poor conditions made it tough for both sides to settle, with chances limited and the game goalless at the break.
The second half, however, was a completely different story as Dundalk came to life. Within five minutes of the restart, Oisín Smyth was already causing problems, rounding the Finn Harps goalkeeper only to see his effort cleared off the line by a recovering defender. Shortly afterwards, Smyth went close again, this time striking the post.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 60th minute. Marcel Gora played a long ball over the top, which Smyth latched onto before cutting inside and smashing a superb effort into the top corner from 25 yards.
Dundalk doubled their advantage in the 75th minute when Sam Bukovec was brought down in the penalty area after racing through on goal. Bukovec picked himself up and calmly converted from the spot to make it 2-0.
The visitors added a third soon after when Karl Stenson-Browne threaded a pass through for Bukovec, who coolly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper.
There was still time for one more goal in the 90th minute. Feranmi Makinwa provided the assist for Smyth, who cut inside from the right wing and fired a low drive into the bottom corner from outside the box to round off an excellent afternoon for Dundalk.
The MU17s now return to Oriel Park next weekend, where they will face Derry City and look to continue their 100 per cent winning run.
