New Contract: Declan McDaid

Declan McDaid says committing his future to Dundalk FC was an easy decision after signing a new contract ahead of the new season.

McDaid, who joined Dundalk during the July transfer window from Athlone Town, quickly became an important part of the squad as the club pushed its way back to the Premier Division. Speaking to DFC’s Chris Clarke after the deal was finalised, McDaid said: “It was absolutely a no-brainer. I’ve loved every minute since I’ve been here. Winning the league and getting the club back to where it belongs was massive, and I want to be part of it again and help next season in the Premier Division.”

2025 Progress

After arriving mid-season, McDaid admits it took time to find his rhythm, having joined the club while managing injury issues. “It took me a bit to get up to speed,” he explained. “But once I got match fit, I felt really good in the team and I thought I helped to contribute to the campaign.”

With pre-season preparations in full swing, Declan is keen to build on 2025’s success in the year ahead.

“We will have a good pre-season and go again in the Premier Division, hopefully I can add more goals and help the team even more,” he said.

Increased Competition

McDaid believes the increased competition within the squad played a key role in driving standards, something he expects to continue as the team rebuilds for the top flight. “You can see more bodies coming in now, it’s going to be fierce competition for places. With the higher standard, everyone’s going to have to be at it every day, and that’s only a good thing for the team.”

Oriel Atmosphere

Looking ahead, McDaid knows the atmosphere at Oriel Park will be vital once again. “I’ve played here with other clubs, and you know it’s a tough place to come,” he said. “The fans were excellent last year and I know they’ll be amazing again. It really drives the lads on and it’s a massive advantage for us.”
