Stephen O’Donnell says that the loan signing of Scott High from Huddersfield Town is an illustration of Dundalk’s ambitions this season.

The 22-year-old, who has made 50 appearances for the Championship club, completed his loan move to Oriel Park on Sunday and O’Donnell believes it is a major coup.

“To play that many games in the Championship at the age of 22 shows the calibre of player we’re getting with Scott and I think it shows how ambitious we are in terms of our recruitment,” he said.

“He’ll give us good energy and good quality in the middle of the park and he’s looking forward to getting into a rhythm after his last loan move to Ross County was cut short due to injury.

“We’ll give him a good platform here to go and express himself and help us until the summer.”

High is the eighth new face to come through the door at Oriel Park ahead of the new season and O’Donnell said it was important for Dundalk to get their business done ahead of the curtain raiser against Shamrock Rovers on February 16th.

“We’re 11 days out from the league opener and even though we’d like a few more in, I’m really happy that we’ve managed to get a lot of our business done before the start of the season,” he said.

“I’ve said before that we would have liked it to have been earlier but I’m delighted with the quality we’ve brought in and it’s slowly but surely coming together.”
