Preview: Sligo Rovers v Dundalk

Dundalk travel to the Showgrounds on Saturday night hoping to keep up their excellent recent form. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

After beating Galway United 2-1 in Oriel Park last Friday, Dundalk moved up to third place in the table. Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers followed up their great win at Dalymount Park with a 2-0 win over Waterford to move out of the bottom two.

Dundalk beat Sligo Rovers 1-0 in the first match between the sides last month, with Daryl Horgan getting the winner from the penalty spot.

Ciaran Kilduff Comments

“We’re looking forward to the game. It’s another really tough one against a Sligo Rovers side who are in very good form themselves, so we know the size of the challenge that’s ahead of us.

“Having the game on Saturday gives us an extra bit of recovery, which is important, because we’ll need every bit of it when we travel down to The Showgrounds. Going there and getting anything is never easy, but we’ve had a good week in training, we’re in good form ourselves, and competition and confidence are high within the group.

“We’re hoping to go down on Saturday night, put our best foot forward, and deliver a strong performance, like we have done in a lot of our games this season.

“Sligo probably felt they were unlucky to lose to us at Oriel earlier in the year, so we know they’ll have plenty of confidence. On any given night at The Showgrounds, they’re a difficult team to face, and I’m sure there’ll be a great atmosphere there.

“It should be a really good game between two teams who are on good runs of form and who will both be doing everything they can to win it. From our point of view, everyone is fit, available and ready to go.”

Team News

Danny Mullen, Vinnie Leonard and Rob Cornwall continue to be assessed, but Dundalk have a mostly clean bill of health outside long term injuries Conor Kearns and Norman Garbett.
