Dundalk FC’s U16 girls team marched into the second round of the O’Neill Cup with a fantastic display against Larkview at Oriel Park on Sunday.

The Lilywhites are the current holders of the cup and, on the evidence of this performance, they look determined to hold onto the trophy.

Molly Williams and Sophie Hanlon both helped themselves to a hat-trick apiece with Paige Cavanagh, Caoimhe Magee and Ciara Whyte joining them on the scoresheet.

Bernard Fireman’s side started well and attacked in numbers from the first whistle but the Larkview goalkeeper made a host of excellent saves to keep them at bay.

Dundalk’s patience paid off after a quarter of an hour and a driving strike from Hanlon put them on their way before Williams added a second, and her first of the day, in the 23rd minute.

Hanlon added her second to leave the hosts in the ascendancy at the break and Dundalk opened up in the second half with five different scorers getting in on the act as they ran out 9-0 winners.
