WU17 academy player Sarah McCaffrey featured in both of the Republic of Ireland WU16 team’s wins over the Faroe Islands last week.

The Monaghan native appeared as a 65th-minute substitute for Beatrice Silickaite in the first of two international friendly games between the countries at Weaver’s Park last Tuesday week.

DLR Waves midfielder Ella Kelly hit an early double to give the Girls In Green, who were captained by former Dundalk FC WU17 goalkeeper Laura Fanning, a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Megan Smyth-Lynch’s side got their third goal in the 75th minute when Wexford’s Leah McGrath confidently scored from the penalty spot and Aisling Meehan made it 4-0 before McGrath wrapped up the scoring in the dying stages.

The teams met again 48 hours later at Whitehall, home of Home Farm FC, with the Republic running out comfortable 8-1 winners.

Sarah started the game and played for 52 minutes before she was replaced by Beatrice Silickaite.

Having won a UEFA Development Tournament in Serbia earlier this year, the WU16s will want to maintain the momentum built up by the 2022/23 group.

McCaffrey was back in Dundalk colours at the weekend, helping our WU17 team to a 2-1 victory over Finn Harps in their Phase Two Tier North fixture at Oriel Park on Sunday.
