After a difficult couple of weeks, our MU14 side picked up a well-earned win with our academy teams’ best showing of the weekend in the Louth Derby against Drogheda United at Oriel Park last Sunday afternoon.

EA SPORTS MU14 LOI Academy Group A
Dundalk FC MU14 2-0 Drogheda United

Cian Mulligan’s side started brightly and with the Drogs happy to drop into a deep block, Dundalk dominated the opening 25 minutes with central defenders Rob Cotter and Tristan McGowan at centre-back distributing the ball well through the lines.

Adam Zivkovic put the young Lilywhites in front after just 11 minutes. Jamie Donnan’s cross was flicked towards goal by Josh Weldon and although Liam Greenslade in the Drogheda goal made a fine save, the rebound fell kindly for Zivkovic who made no mistake.

Dundalk, could, and would have added more to their tally but for the efforts of Greenslade and the woodwork. Zivkovic struck the post from 25 yards and Mason Molyneaux saw a close-range effort well saved by the Drogs netminder.

The second goal duly arrived in the 21st minute when Jamie Grace linked up well with Molyneaux before curling the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out.

The visitors improved after that without really threatening Marcel Gora’s clean sheet and there were no further goals to report across the rest of the afternoon as Dundalk comfortably saw it out to claim their second win of the EA SPORTS MU14 LOI Academy Group A campaign.

The best performers on the day were Jamie Grace, Tristan McGowan and Mason Molyneaux.

Next up: Finn Harps, The Curragh, Letterkenny, Sunday, April 14th, 2pm.
