Saturday saw our MU15s travel to Derry and return with all three points after a resolute performance to raise the curtain on their league campaign in the best possible way.

After an intense opening, Derry took the lead eight minutes in, but Dundalk responded almost immediately. Aaron O’Brien found space and delivered a pinpoint cross to Braiden McCarney, who arrived at the back post to guide a tidy finish across the Derry goalkeeper.

The game ebbed and flowed for much of the first half, with both teams creating chances. Dundalk, however, made theirs count again when Massimo Ngene unselfishly squared for Ryan Musgrave on the edge of the area, and Musgrave left the keeper with no chance—placing his effort into the bottom corner to put Dundalk 2-1 ahead.

The second half saw opportunities at both ends, but Dundalk looked the more likely to add a third. In the end, it was a disciplined defensive display that ensured the points came back down the road, as the U15s protected their lead and managed the game out well.

Speaking afterwards, MU15s Head Coach Stephen Todd said:

“I’m delighted for the lads. We showed some real grit and determination in the second half to protect the lead and we got what we deserved. Derry is a tough place to go and they were a well-coached side, so to get the win up here is always a tall order. Credit to the boys for digging in and showing real character. I’m really looking forward to working with this group in the season ahead as there’s just so much quality there. A job well done.”
