Dundalk secured a vital three points with a hard-earned but deserved 2–1 victory over Derry City.
The visitors made the brighter start, winning an early corner that Dundalk scrambled clear, but the home side quickly settled and began to take control.
In the 4th minute, McDaid found himself in space from Horgan’s cross-field pass, but Beach reacted well to spread himself and make the save. A minute later, JR Wilson’s cross was headed across the six-yard box by Arubi, with Kenny’s follow-up effort deflected just wide.
The game developed into a steady rhythm, with Dundalk enjoying the better of the play. Their pressure told after 20 minutes. Arubi headed the ball down for Kenny, who threaded a perfectly weighted pass through to Horgan. The winger struck first time, finishing low past Beach.
Dundalk nearly doubled their lead three minutes later. Dervin set up Tyreke Wilson, who, already boasting two goal-of-the-season contenders, almost added another spectacular effort, striking the underside of the crossbar from 30 yards with Beach beaten.
Derry reminded Dundalk of their threat shortly afterwards when Ben Doherty broke down the right and fired narrowly wide of Minogue’s far post.
Before the break, Dundalk had a strong penalty shout when Dos Santos challenged Tyreke Wilson, while Arubi also tested his luck from distance with a low effort that went wide.
Derry made a triple substitution at half-time and were fortunate not to be reduced to ten men soon after the restart when the already-booked Josh Thomas made a late challenge on Minogue. Thomas was promptly substituted.
The visitors equalised in stunning fashion. From a Duffy corner, JR Wilson’s clearance fell to Cameron Dummigan on the edge of the box, and the former Dundalk player rifled a superb volley into the top corner.

Dundalk responded immediately. Dervin won possession inside his own half and released Tyreke Wilson, who drove forward before sending Horgan down the left. His low cross was inch-perfect, and Arubi finished clinically from six yards to restore Dundalk’s lead.
With 20 minutes remaining, shortly after Duffy fired into the side netting at the near post, Dundalk introduced Keith Buckley and Ronan Teahan in place of Shane Tracey and Eoin Kenny.
Derry continued to press, and Minogue produced an excellent save in the 75th minute to deny Duffy’s header, which looked destined for the bottom corner. The pressure intensified late on, with Minogue again called into action in the 87th minute to keep out a James Clarke effort.
Despite the late push, Dundalk held firm to claim an important win.
