Dundalk FC v Galway United: Preview

Dundalk FC v Galway United

Oriel Park

Friday 21 August 2026

Kick-Off 7.45pm

Dundalk FC welcome Galway United to Oriel Park on Friday night in what promises to be a special occasion, marking the 100th anniversary of the club's first League of Ireland match.

Celebrations aside, Dundalk are focused on what will be a major challenge. Dundalk have beaten Galway United twice this season, although both matches were extremely tough encounters.

Ciaran Kilduff Comments:

"Our focus is on trying to win the game. Of course, we're aware of the centenary celebrations that are planned and it's a special time for the club.

We probably won't get to enjoy most of those celebrations unless we get the result we want, so all our attention is on the match. It's a fantastic occasion and one that's been spoken about since before the season started, but at the end of the day there's a game of football to be played. We'll be doing everything we can to make sure we come out on the right side of it."

Bobby Burns Comments:

"I'm really looking forward to it. Galway are a very strong side. They're physical, fit and have real quality in the final third, so we're fully aware of the challenge they'll bring.

"At the same time, it's an exciting occasion with all the centenary celebrations around the club. We saw the centenary video featuring the new kit, and it really highlighted what the club means to people. We're hoping for a big crowd to get behind us and drive us on.

"We want to get back to winning ways and we know this is a big game for us. Going into the final round of fixtures, we're still in a position where a good result keeps us firmly in the mix for the European places, which gives everyone plenty to play for."
