Dundalk MU17s maintained their perfect start to the season with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Bohemian FC in a top-of-the-table clash at the Oscar Traynor Coaching and Development Centre on Sunday.
It was a tight and cautious opening to the contest, with both sides taking time to settle and neither willing to give much away in the early stages. Clear-cut chances were at a premium in the first half as the teams felt each other out in a closely fought battle.
The game began to open up after the break, however, with both sides showing greater attacking intent and creating opportunities.
The decisive moment arrived in the 50th minute when Dundalk struck on the counter-attack. A swift breakaway caught the home side exposed and Feranmi Makinwa produced an incisive through ball for Oisín Smyth, who kept his composure to guide the ball beyond the Bohs goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.
It proved enough to separate the teams, with Dundalk defending resolutely for the remainder of the game to secure another clean sheet and another three points.

The result means Stephen Hutchinson’s side have now won all four of their league games so far this season, while also maintaining an outstanding defensive record of four clean sheets from four matches. Manager Reaction
After the game, manager Stephen Hutchinson praised the attitude and development of his players.
“The lads have been very impressive over the past four games. They work very hard for each other and their results are reflecting that.
“The staff and myself are pleased with the way the squad is developing. Week to week, the lads are consistently improving and put a lot of work in. Overall, we are very pleased.”
