Dundalk FC MU17s maintained their impressive start to the season with a hard-earned 2-0 victory over Derry City at the Brandywell on Sunday afternoon.
The home side began the stronger and created a number of early opportunities, but Dundalk stood firm during a difficult opening spell. Having weathered that pressure, the Lilywhites struck first in the 33rd minute. A corner from Noah Boylan caused problems in the Derry box and Leon Laban was on hand to finish, giving Dundalk a valuable lead.
It remained a tight and competitive contest for the rest of the game, with both teams creating chances in an open, end-to-end encounter. Dundalk continued to show their resilience, and a crucial moment arrived late on when Nick Negru produced an outstanding goal-line clearance with his head to preserve the advantage.
The visitors then sealed the win in the 85th minute with an excellent second goal. Taiye Odusanya played the ball into Oisin Smyth, who cut in from the right wing before firing a superb strike from outside the box into the bottom corner.
Manager Stephen Hutchinson stated after the game: "It was another strong away performance, we defended well and showed great character throughout on what is never an easy trip to Derry. The result also brought another three points and another clean sheet."
Dundalk MU17s are back in action on March 15th when they travel to Dublin to face Bohemians in a top-of-the-table clash.
