Wilson Confirmed For 2026!

Dundalk FC have confirmed that defender JR Wilson has signed a new contract, keeping him at Oriel Park for the upcoming season after an impressive second half of last year’s campaign. Wilson joined the club midway through the season and quickly established himself as a key part of the promotion-winning squad.


“I kept in contact with the manager over the last while,” Wilson explained. “I had a few things to get sorted on my end with work and that, but once that was done, it was just about getting everything lined up and coming back in for pre-season.”

Mid-Season Arrival

Arriving halfway through a season can often be challenging, but Wilson feels his time at Dundalk couldn’t have gone much better. “You come in expecting to fight for your place,” he said. “I ended up playing a lot at left-back to cover injuries, even though right-back is my natural position. I’m happy to play anywhere, and once I got in the team, I stayed there for the rest of the season, which was great.”


Wilson had previously experienced Oriel Park from the opposition side, but says playing in front of the Dundalk support was a different experience altogether. “It was brilliant,” he said. “I’d played here before, but I was actually surprised by the levels when you’re on this side of it. It’s right up there, and having that support behind you makes a massive difference.”

Premier Return

Looking back on his decision to join the club, Wilson believes Dundalk’s return to the Premier Division was vital. “This is one of the biggest clubs in the country,” he said. “Being back in the Premier Division is where the club belongs. You can see it in the players the manager has brought in – there’s real energy, hunger and desire in the group.”


Now preparing for his first full pre-season with Dundalk, Wilson is eager to get started.

“Coming in halfway through last year, you miss that early work,” he said. “So it’s great to be back at the starting blocks with the lads. There’s plenty of hard work ahead, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
