Athlone Town 0-5 Dundalk FC MU19

A Callum Bonner cracker set our MU19 team on the way to a resounding 5-0 win against Athlone Town in Lissywoollen on Sunday.

After a scrappy opening, the Dundalk winger produced a moment of quality by unleashing a beautiful strike which found the top corner of Reuben Egan’s net with 10 minutes on the clock.

Tiarnan Mulvenna’s side took complete control after that and Anthony Moyo, who is getting stronger by the week following his return from injury, made it 2-0 on the half-hour mark.

Bonner added a third before the interval and the Lilywhites showed no let-up in the second half with Samuel Soyemi scoring a fine effort of his own before Mayowa Animasahun added a fifth late on after Oisin Coleman, who was exceptional in the middle of the park, found him with a pinpoint delivery.

“It was a horrible day for travelling but the lads responded to a good win over Finn Harps a week earlier by putting in another great display and to win 5-0 away from home is always good, no matter who you are playing.

“With the players we are missing, it was a massive result and it keeps us ticking over nicely and top of the section going into the next couple of games.”

Mulvenna also paid tribute to Sean Bannon, who captained the side in his last game for the club before taking up a scholarship in the USA. Bannon, who has been at Oriel Park since he was 13, produced a fine display at centre-back alongside Animasahun.
