Report: Drogheda United 1-1 Dundalk FC

Just like their first Louth derby of the season, Drogheda United and Dundalk could not be separated at Sullivan & Lambe Park, with the sides sharing the spoils in a game that could have gone either way.

Ciarán Kilduff's side were the better team for long stretches and will rue not converting their first-half dominance into a more commanding advantage. Gbemi Arubi gave the Lilywhites a deserved lead, but Leo Burney's headed equaliser shortly after half-time ensured the points were shared.

The lead arrived on 17 minutes and was both opportunistic and well taken. Aodh Dervin's forward pass was intended for Daryl Horgan, but the ball rolled kindly into the path of Arubi, who drove into the area, beat Andrew Quinn for strength and sent a composed finish to the bottom corner. It could, and perhaps should, have been more before the break, with Horgan, Kenny and Wilson all going close in one madcap sequence, Wilson striking the crossbar with a deflected effort.

Drogheda emerged a transformed side after the interva. On 57 minutes, Brandon Kavanagh's corner was inch-perfect and Burney headed home. The same combination almost produced a second, but Burney headed over, and Dervin fired just over at the other end as neither side could find a winner.

Drogheda United: Talley; Agbaje, Quinn, Burney, Kane; Kavanagh, Farrell (O'Brien 74), Brennan (Godden 82), Oluwa; Doyle, Davis (Cruise 29).

Dundalk: Minogue; Warren, Cornwall, Burns; McDaid (Mullen 71), Dervin, Tracey (Buckley 62), T. Wilson; Horgan (Gaxha 46), Kenny; Arubi. Referee: Rob Hennessy.
